Hypericum
calycinum ‘Brigadoon’
Yellow-leaved St. John’s Wort
Size: 18” X 3’
(somewhat stoloniferous, but tame)
Exposure: Full
to part sun
Flower
Time:
Mid June (The flowers will not be overly noticeable)
Ornamental
Characteristics:
Whoa
what a plant! We
have yet to find a plant in our nursery with such an intense and
reliable
foliage color. Thus
far, Brigadoon has
proven to have great, bright yellow leaves throughout the entire
growing
season. While
butter yellow flowers are
expected on this plant, we have not experienced them yet. Besides, yellow flowers
will likely become
unnoticeable against the strong foliage.
This species is very drought tolerant and much more
forgiving of winter
moisture, when compared to H. androsaemum. It can be treated as a cut
back shrub as
described with H. a., but may not
be
absolutely necessary with this selection.
