Chinese Sweetshrub is a beautiful shrub that has yet to reach common status in American gardens.  This is sad to say the least.  I believe this species is much more attractive than its American cousin with C.s.’s 3” diameter, light pink blooms.  Both species (American and Asian) have their quality attributes of garden worthiness, but the flowers of the Chinese Sweetshrub are more reminiscent of single Peonies with large expanded petals encircling bright yellow anthers.
