Deutzia
gracilis ‘Nikko’
Dwarf Deutzia
Size: 2’ X 4’
Exposure: Sun
to Shade
Flowering
Time:
Late April to Early May
Ornamental
Characteristics:
Don’t
be afraid! This
is not the 8’ tall, leggy beast your grandmother had planted next to
her front
porch. ‘Nikko’
is a well behaved, dainty shrub for
the garden. White
flowers consume this
plant during spring with an impact guaranteed to draw a crowd. The foliage manages to
remain in decent shape
during the rest of the season, making it an unobtrusive element once it
has
finished flowering. The
true beauty of
the plant is its cultural versatility (full sun to dry shade) and
diminutive
structure that allows other plants to take the stage during their time
of
glory. Once the
season comes to a close,
‘Nikko’s
foliage turns a great burgundy color, simply adding to its charm and
effectiveness. Pruning
is not really
required to maintain the size and uniform shape we all (don’t worry you
will
too) have come to love and enjoy from this plant.
