Ginkgo biloba (unnamed
upright)
Ginkgo ‘?’
Size: 40’ x 8’ (estimated)
Exposure: Full Sun
Flower: N/A (known to be a female)
Sunny Ray’s certainly hopes to be the first to nursery to
offer this great selection. The original
plant was noticed by Paul Cappiello and John Wachter while we were working at
Bernheim Arboretum. It is located just
before the Brooks Road
exit off I-65.
The plant has a very upright, narrow habit with a spread of
about 5’ and height of about 30’. The
trunk has a caliper between 10” and 12”.
Fall color is the same as all Ginkgo’s; a bright yellow for several
weeks. Then, boom, all the leaves drop
in one day.
This selection has the potential of being a real break
through given ‘Fastigiata’, Princeton Sentry’, and ‘Lake View’
all get much broader with age.
