No, we at Sunny Ray’s Nursery do feel compelled to “lie”
about a plant’s
performance, just to sell a couple more.
Hayes Starburst really does bloom for 2 to 3 months during
the growing
season. The 8” X
10” panicles droop
gracefully off of the ends of the branches, giving the plant a much
more
relaxed feel than its sister Annabelle.
While some may contend that this drooping habit indicates
the plants
tendency to flop on the ground, we feel this is more a product of light
than genetic
certainty. Ben has
experienced this
beauty in both part sun and full shade, with full shade showing a plant
that
was erect, robust, and in full bloom around the end of July. It is our belief that this
“doubled up hunk”
will perform much more admirably when exposed to no more than early
morning
sun. If you only
have part shade, place
it behind another, similar sized shrub;
so that it can lay over on its neighbor for a little plant
support. This
selection was found by Mr. Hayes Jackson
in Alabama.
