Hydrangea quercifolia
‘Shannon’ Shannon Double-flowered Oakleaf
Hydrangea
Size: 8’ x 8’
Exposure: Full Sun to
Shade
Flower: Creamy white
panicles in July
Oh what a find!
Theodore Klein came across this plant in an unknown fashion and placed
it in his arboretum, now named Yew
Dell Gardens. There this jewel lay silently until Paul
Cappiello saw it while traversing the collections.
Shannon holds the standard
qualities of straight Oakleaf Hydrangeas in regards to the peeling bark and
great fall color. The separation comes
with the double flowers mounted on 2’ panicles.
Sizes like you have never seen!
Then, as the flowers fade, they reliably take on a great deep red then
brown hue. Truly gorgeous.
