Time:
February to March
Ornamental
Characteristics:
This
low mounding evergreen shrub has been described
to us as a “pass around plant” by a great plantsman.
However, we have not seen this to be true, or
at least yrue enough. J. nudiflorum has only been seen twice
in this area by us (Munchkin Nursery and Bernheim).
The very early flower time adds some much
needed color to the garden in late winter with its bright yellow
blossoms. The
evergreen foliage stays clean and
attractive throughout the growing season.
Down South this plant is used on steep hillsides quite
frequently
because of its ability to root readily where the branches touch. Hardy Jasmine’s tolerance
of many soils and
moisture levels also make it a prime candidate for nasty landscape
sites. Shade is
required to prevent winter
desiccation.
