Leptodermis
oblonga
Noname Cool Shrub
Size:
4’ x 6’ (slowly spreading)
Exposure:
Sun to shade
Flower
Time: June to September
Ornamental
Characteristics:
This
relatively unknown shrub deserves much more attention
than the past has given it. Leptodermis emerges in the spring with
deep green, glossy foliage which remains clean for the duration of the
growing
season. This foliar
display makes the
perfect backdrop for the tubular clusters of lavender flowers that
completely
cover the plant in June. Once
the heavy
show is over, flowers continue to open in effective numbers until
September
calls all to an end. Aside
for the
extraordinary outward appearance, Leptodermis
has the uncanny ability to withstand the gamut of soil conditions, dry
shade
being the most sought after. The
suckering habit of this plant will not make it a nuisance in the garden
but may
aid in the security of nasty slopes.
