Lespedeza ‘Little Buddy’ Shorter Bushclover
Someone got a little overzealous with the naming of this plant. While ‘Little Buddy’ is about ¾’ the size of the species, it is not near as diminutive as the name implies. This aside, the plant is absolutely fantastic. Lespedeza’s, as a species, are very tolerant of drought, heat and clay soils, making them a prize for the garden. Couple that with an explosion of purple flowers when nothing else is blooming, you have the perfect backdrop for a perennial garden. Treat this plant as a perennial by cutting it to the ground each winter to maintain compactness and vigor.
