Wort

Time:
June to July
Ornamental
Characteristics:
Hypericum olympicum is
a wonderful ground cover plant that has many quality attributes to
offer the
garden. While
diminutive in size, its ¼”
foliage casts a blue-green color throughout the growing season. Then, in late spring, 1 ½”
creamy yellow
flowers adorn the top of this low lying gem.
All this garden glory will persist for years as long as it
is placed in
a well drained soil, retaining minimal winter moisture.
H. o.
also has the unusual habit of dying out in the middle each year. This does not kill the
plant outright, but
the plant moves around a little because it comes back from the branches
that
rooted the previous year. Creeping
St. John’s
Wort is a great
candidate for a true rock garden.
