Hypericum ‘Tricolor’
Variegated St. John’s
Wort
Size: 2’ X 3’
Exposure: Full
Sun to Part Shade
Flower
Time:
June to July
Ornamental
Characteristics:
This
is one for the entire growing season.
The leaves of Tricolor have a wonderful
creamy white variegation along the edge with a dark green center. During periods of growth,
the new leaves are
deep red in the center with pink edges, fading to the previous
description. ½”
yellow flowers appear in
clusters at the ends of each branch in late spring/ early summer,
adding to its
usefulness. This
plant requires well
drained soils to retain vigor and beauty.
Occasionally, one may notice a green reversion which needs
to be removed
immediately. Also,
keep in mind that
extended periods of excessive winter moisture will sentence this wonder
selection to death or poor performance.
