Lespedeza ‘Yakushima’
Really Small
Bushclover
Size: 12”
X 18”
Exposure: Sun
Flower
Time:
June to September
Ornamental
Characteristics:
This
tiny garden gem deserves the name of its cousin ‘Little
Buddy’. With a
small, perfectly mounded
growth habit, Yakushima demands placement in the front of the border. It verifies this demand by
beginning its
flowering in late spring, continuing until September.
While the ½” purple flowers are not
overwhelming on their own, their presence across the entire plant
create a nice
effect. The only
downside we have
noticed is its tendency to have chlorotic leaves late in the season
after
flowering has ceased. This
can be easily
remedied by drawing attention to a nice fall aster like ‘Raydon’s
Favorite’.
